What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1476-6AS36 is a SIRIUS contactor in the S12 frame size, designed for switching motor loads in industrial control panels. It carries screw-type terminals on the magnet coil and auxiliary switch contacts, with a main pole wiring range accepting stranded conductors from 70 to 240 mm². The contactor is rated for AC/DC coil voltage with a rated value of 500 to 550 V, and its auxiliary contacts handle 10 A at 24 V rated value, 2 A at 48 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V — covering typical PLC-level and relay interface loads. Mounting is via screw fixing with a vertical mounting surface, rotatable +/-90° and tiltable +/-22.5° front-to-back, giving flexibility in tight enclosures. The contactor requires 10 mm clearance downwards, 10 mm upwards, 10 mm at the side, and 20 mm forwards for arc dissipation.
Integration notes for the panel builder
At 225 mm depth, 160 mm width, and 214 mm height, the S12 frame fits into standard 600 mm deep enclosures with room for gland plates and wiring ducts. The main pole accepts 70 to 240 mm² stranded cable — sized for motor feeders up to the contactor's thermal rating. Auxiliary wiring uses the solid/stranded ranges listed: 2x 0.5 to 1.5 mm², 2x 0.75 to 2.5 mm², or max 2x 0.75 to 4 mm² per terminal. The coil is screw-type, so termination is straightforward with standard wire ferrules. Arcing time is 10 to 15 ms; the clearance distances (10 mm down/up/side, 20 mm forward) must be maintained to prevent flashover between phases or to grounded metal.
