The Siemens 3RT1517-2GG20 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the size S00 frame — the smallest in the family, at 45 mm wide, 60 mm tall, 72 mm deep. Spring-loaded terminals on both the main and auxiliary/control circuits (2x 0.25…2.5 mm² solid or stranded) mean no screwdriver needed for wiring, which speeds panel build and reduces loose-connection callbacks. The coil is 24 VDC with a full-wave rectified suppressor built in — that suppresses the back-EMF spike without an external diode. Inrush at 24 V hits 10 A; holding power is 3.8 VA at 50 Hz. The contactor is rated for AC switching with arcing time 10…15 ms, and the main circuit impulse withstand is 6 kV. Auxiliary contacts (1 NC + 1 NO) each carry 12 A continuous, and the manufacturer recommends a gL/gG 20 A fuse for short-circuit protection with type 2 coordination.
The mounting surface can be rotated ±180° or tilted ±30° front-to-back, which helps when the panel layout is tight.
The 24 VDC coil inrush of 10 A is the peak at pickup; the holding draw drops to 3.8 VA. If you're paralleling multiple contactors on one 24 VDC supply, sum the inrush — a 10 A supply might not handle four of these simultaneously. The auxiliary contact rating of 12 A per contact (NC and NO) is enough to drive a small contactor or indicator load directly, but for PLC inputs you'd still use a fuse or electronic protection.
