What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT2016-1AK61-ZW97 is a SIRIUS power contactor in Size S00, designed for switching motor loads and resistive loads in control panels. Its 45 mm width and 73 mm depth fit standard DIN-rail enclosures; mounting is screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. The coil draws 0.24 A at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, so line frequency variation won't shift pickup behavior. An auxiliary switch is integrated, saving a separate add-on block for status feedback.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
The contactor's mechanical lifetime is rated 30 million operations typical — that's the mechanical endurance of the main contact structure, not the electrical load switching life. For a furnace line cycling once per minute, that's roughly 57 years of mechanical wear before the armature or springs need attention. Electrical life depends on the load: at AC-1 (resistive) it can switch 1 000 operations per hour maximum; at AC-3 (motor start/run) that drops to 750 per hour; at AC-4 (plugging, inching) it's 250 per hour. The AC-3e rating matches the AC-3 figure at 750 per hour, so motor duty is the design center. Ambient operating range is -25 to +60 °C, which covers most indoor panel environments but not direct furnace-side heat without additional cooling.
Wiring and terminal capacity
Main contact terminals accept solid or stranded conductors from 0.5 mm² to 4 mm². For two conductors in parallel, the range is 2x (0.5...1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75...2.5 mm²), or 2x 4 mm². The magnet coil uses screw-type terminals, so no special crimp tooling is needed for the control wiring. Arcing time is 10 to 15 ms at AC; clearance distances are 10 mm upward, downward, and forward, 6 mm at the side — sufficient for standard panel layout without extra barriers.
