Switching Frequency and Duty Cycles
Maximum mechanical switching rate hits 30,000,000 cycles typical. Electrical life depends on duty: 1,000 operations per hour at AC-1 (resistive), 750/h at AC-2 and AC-3 (motor starting), and 250/h at AC-4 (plugging/inching). The arcing time runs 10 to 15 ms at AC — that's the window where the contacts need to clear the arc without welding. For high-inertia loads or frequent jogging, stay within the AC-4 ceiling.
Termination and Conductor Sizing
Screw-type terminals accept solid conductors 0.5 to 4 mm² and stranded 0.5 to 4 mm². For doubled-up conductors, the range is 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or 2x 4 mm². That covers most panel wiring from signal-level control circuits up to motor power feeds within the contactor's rating.
Mounting position is standing on a horizontal surface. These gaps ensure adequate arc flash and heat dissipation — cramming it tighter risks nuisance tripping or accelerated contact wear.
