Integrator's spec recap
The Siemens 3RT2016-1BA42 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S00, with a 12 V DC coil and screw-type terminals. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 60715, with screw and snap-on fastening. The coil picks up at 0.8 times rated voltage, and the DC operate time runs 7 to 13 ms with an arcing time of 10 to 15 ms.
What the ratings mean for fit
Size S00 gives you a 45 mm wide, 58 mm tall, 73 mm deep package — fits standard 45 mm-wide DIN-rail slots. The 12 V DC coil is a specific control voltage; verify your control transformer or PLC output matches. The screw-type terminals accept solid or stranded wire from 0.5 to 4 mm², and up to two conductors per clamp (2x 0.5–1.5 mm², 2x 0.75–2.5 mm², or 2x 4 mm²). That covers most panel wiring up to 4 mm² without needing ferrules. The contactor is rated for 1 hp at 230 V AC, and for DC switching at various voltages: 10 A at 24 V DC, 2 A at 48 V and 60 V DC, 1 A at 110 V DC, 0.9 A at 125 V DC, 0.3 A at 220 V DC, and 3 A at 400 V DC. The main contact rating is listed as 20–12 (likely the AC-3 / AC-1 current range). These DC ratings are the ones that govern real-world switching of DC loads like solenoid valves or DC motor brakes — the AC horsepower rating alone doesn't capture that. Maximum operating frequency varies by duty: 1000 cycles per hour for AC-1 (resistive), 750/h for AC-2 and AC-3 (motor starting, slip-ring and squirrel-cage), 750/h for AC-3e, and 250/h for AC-4 (plugging, inching). The auxiliary switch is present, so you have a spare N/O or N/C set for status feedback or interlocking.
Mounting and clearance
Mounting position is flexible: the contactor can be rotated ±180° on a vertical surface, and tilted forward or backward by ±22.5°. Required clearances around the unit: 10 mm upwards, 10 mm forwards, 10 mm downwards, and 6 mm at the sides. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage range is -55 to +80 °C.
