The Siemens 3RT2016-2BB42-ZW96 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the Size S00 frame, designed for switching motor loads and resistive circuits in control panels. The 24 VDC coil pulls in at 0.8 of rated voltage and holds across the full operating range of -25 to +60 °C. Rated switching current at 24 V is 10 A, which covers small motors, solenoid valves, and lighting contactor duty within the S00 thermal limits. Spring-type terminals accept solid or stranded conductors from 0.5 to 4 mm², with dual-wire capability up to 2x 4 mm². The contactor mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 60715, and the mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface plus ±22.5° tilt forward/backward — useful when fitting into tight gland-plate layouts.
Duty-cycle and switching frequency
Maximum switching frequency depends on the load category: 1 000 operations per hour for AC-1 resistive loads, 750/h for AC-2 and AC-3 motor starting, and 250/h for AC-4 plugging or inching duty. The AC-3e rating also permits 750/h. These limits govern the thermal rise in the coil and main contacts — exceeding them shortens mechanical life, which is rated at 30 million operations typical.
