What this part is and what it does
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT2016-2BB42-ZX95 is a size S00 power contactor with a 24 VDC coil rated at 10 A. It uses spring-type terminals for the coil and main contacts, accepting solid or stranded wire from 0.5 to 4 mm² (2x 0.5 to 4 mm² for the main contacts). The contactor includes an auxiliary switch with 1 NO + 1 NC configuration. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm standard mounting rail per DIN EN 60715. The mounting position allows +/-180° rotation on a vertical surface and can be tilted forward/backward by +/-22.5°. Clearance distances: 10 mm upwards, downwards, and forwards; 6 mm at the side.
Key ratings and what they mean for your panel
The 24 VDC coil draws 10 A at rated value. That's the inrush to pull the armature in; holding current drops to 0.8 A initial value. The coil operates from -25 to +60 °C ambient and stores from -55 to +80 °C. For a molding cell, that means it holds the zone even near a hot barrel — no derating worry in a typical injection molding hall. Switching frequency limits: 1,000 cycles/hour at AC-1 (resistive loads), 750 cycles/hour at AC-2 and AC-3 (motor loads), and 250 cycles/hour at AC-4 (plugging/inching). The AC-3e rating also caps at 750 cycles/hour. For a conveyor or pump start-stop cycle, you're well within the 750/h limit — but if you're jogging a servo, the AC-4 limit of 250/h is the hard stop. Arcing time is 10 to 15 ms; DC switching time (dropout) is 7 to 13 ms. That's fast enough for most safety circuits — the contactor drops out within one mains cycle on a 50 Hz line. Mechanical life is rated at 30 million operating cycles typical.
Where it fits in the panel
The S00 frame size measures 45 mm wide, 70 mm high, and 73 mm deep — a compact footprint that leaves room for auxiliary contact blocks or overload relays on the DIN rail. The spring terminals accept solid or stranded wire 0.5 to 4 mm², so you can land 14 AWG to 12 AWG without ferrules, though ferrules are recommended for stranded in high-vibration environments. Snap-on mounting onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 60715 means no tools for installation — push on, clip in, wire up. The +/-180° rotation on vertical surfaces and +/-22.5° tilt flexibility means you can orient the contactor to match the wire entry direction in a crowded cabinet.
