SIRIUS 3RT2016-2DB44 — compact power contactor for 24 V DC control
The Siemens 3RT2016-2DB44 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S00, designed for switching motor loads and resistive loads in industrial control panels. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, with a 45 mm width that fits tight enclosure layouts. The coil is rated 24 V DC, drawing 6 A at that voltage for the auxiliary circuit. Spring-type terminals (cage clamp) accept 0.5... 4 mm² solid or stranded wire, and up to 2x (0.5... 4 mm²) per clamp — no screw torque to verify, which speeds panel wiring. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, storage from -55 to +80 °C. The contactor can be mounted in any orientation within ±180° rotation on a vertical surface, and tilted forward/backward by ±22.5° — useful when fitting into existing cable trays or gland plates.
Switching frequency and contact ratings
Maximum switching frequency depends on duty: 1 000 operations/hour at AC-1 (resistive), 750/h at AC-2 and AC-3 (motor starting), and 250/h at AC-4 (plugging/inching). The AC-3e rating also caps at 750/h. These limits govern thermal rise in the coil and contacts — exceeding them shortens life or causes nuisance tripping. Main contacts are rated for 20... 12 A (likely a range for different voltage/load combinations, though the exact condition isn't broken out here). The auxiliary contact at 24 V DC is 6 A; at 230 V it's rated 1 hp. Arcing time is 10... 15 ms, and the DC dropout delay is 7... 13 ms — relevant for timing-sensitive interlocking.
