SIRIUS S00 power contactor with spring terminals
The Siemens 3RT2016-2FB42 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S00 frame size, designed for switching loads in industrial control panels. The coil is rated at 24 VDC, and the main contacts carry 10 A at 24 VDC, 2 A at 48 VDC, 2 A at 60 VDC, 1 A at 110 VDC, 0.9 A at 125 VDC, 0.3 A at 220 VDC, and 3 A at 400 VDC — these are the DC-1 or DC-3 ratings per the datasheet, so the actual current depends on the load type and switching frequency. The contactor includes an integrated auxiliary switch, saving panel space compared to adding a separate block. Wiring is via spring-type terminals (cage clamp), accepting solid or stranded conductors from 0.5 to 4 mm², or 2x (0.5 to 4 mm²) per clamp. This speeds panel assembly and eliminates periodic screw-torque checks on vibrating machinery.
Mounting and panel integration
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. The S00 footprint is 45 mm wide, 70 mm tall, 73 mm deep — compact enough for dense panel layouts. Clearance requirements: 10 mm upward, 10 mm forward, 10 mm downward, 6 mm to the side. The mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface and ±22.5° tilt forward/backward, giving flexibility in tight enclosures.
Switching frequency and thermal limits
Maximum switching frequency depends on the duty class: 1,000 cycles/hour at AC-1 (resistive loads), 750 cycles/hour at AC-2 and AC-3 (slip-ring and squirrel-cage motors), 750 cycles/hour at AC-3e (enhanced motor switching), and 250 cycles/hour at AC-4 (plugging/inching). The arcing time is 10 to 15 ms, and the DC operating time (coil pickup to main contact closure) is 38 to 65 ms. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage range is -55 to +80 °C.
