Siemens 3RT2016-2QB42 SIRIUS Coupling Contactor
The Siemens 3RT2016-2QB42 is a SIRIUS coupling contactor in Size S00, designed for switching loads up to 10 A at 24 VDC coil voltage. It uses spring-type terminals and mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, making it a compact (45 mm wide, 70 mm tall, 121 mm deep) panel component for control circuits where a dedicated coupling contactor is specified. The 24 VDC coil draws an initial inrush of 0.7 A and holds at 1.25 A full-scale, with a dropout delay of 7 to 20 ms — important when sequencing contactors in safety or interlock chains. The arcing time runs 10–15 ms, so the contactor clears faults fast enough for most control circuits. Switching frequency depends on duty: up to 1,000 operations per hour at AC-1 (resistive loads), 750/h at AC-2 and AC-3 (motor starting/running), and 250/h at AC-4 (plugging/reversing). That means for a conveyor motor running AC-3 duty, you get 750 cycles per hour — enough for most material-handling lines, but not for high-speed indexing.
Mounting and Integration
Mounts on 35 mm DIN rail (DIN EN 60715) with screw or snap-on fastening. The mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface and ±22.5° tilt forward/backward, so it fits in tight enclosures without derating. Clearance: 10 mm upward, 10 mm forward, 10 mm downward, 6 mm at the sides — plan for these gaps around the contactor to avoid heat buildup. Spring-type terminals accept solid or stranded wire from 0.5 to 4 mm², or two conductors of the same range (2x 0.5–4 mm²). No screwdriver torque needed — strip, insert, release. The contactor has no auxiliary switch built in, so if you need feedback to a PLC, plan for a separate auxiliary contact block.
Environmental and Compliance
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage range is -55 to +80 °C. The contactor is rated for use in standard industrial enclosures; no special cooling required within those limits.
