What it is and where it fits
The Siemens 3RT2017-1AR62 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S00 frame size, rated for switching motor loads and resistive loads in control panels up to 5.5 kW at 400 V (AC-3). The S00 footprint — 45 mm wide, 58 mm tall, 73 mm deep — is the smallest in the SIRIUS contactor family, designed for high-density DIN-rail layouts where every millimeter of enclosure space counts. It mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, and the mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface plus ±22.5° tilt forward/backward, giving panel builders flexibility in tight enclosures.
Key ratings and what they mean for your panel
The contactor is rated for 1,000 switching cycles per hour under AC-1 resistive load, 750 cycles/h under AC-2 and AC-3 motor duty, and 250 cycles/h under AC-4 (plugging/reversing). These limits govern the thermal load on the main contacts — exceed them and the contactor will overheat or weld closed. For a conveyor drive cycling every 5 seconds, you'd need to derate or step up to the next frame size. The auxiliary contact block handles 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 48 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V — typical for signaling back to a PLC input or a status lamp. The 10 A at 24 V rating is the one that matters for most 24 VDC control circuits; it's generous for a contactor this size. Wire terminals accept solid or stranded conductors from 0.5 to 4 mm², including two 4 mm² wires in parallel. That's enough for the main power wiring on a 5.5 kW motor at 400 V. The screw-type terminals are standard for panel builders who prefer a positive clamping force over spring cages.
Environmental limits and clearances
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, storage from -55 to +80 °C. The -25 °C floor means it's fine for unheated plant rooms in temperate climates, but not for freezer applications without a heater. Required clearances: 10 mm above, 10 mm below, 10 mm forward, 6 mm to the side — tight enough for dense rail packing.
