The Siemens 3RT2017-1BB42-1AA0 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S00 frame size designed for switching motor loads and resistive loads in industrial control panels. It mounts via screw and snap-on onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, which simplifies panel integration and replacement. The coil is rated at 24 VDC with a pickup ratio of 0.8 and a dropout ratio of 1.1, meaning it reliably pulls in at 80% of nominal and drops out at 110% of nominal. This gives the coil a clean switching margin across the operating temperature range of -25 to +60 °C. For DC switching, the contactor is rated 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 48 V and 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.9 A at 125 V, 0.3 A at 220 V, and 3 A at 400 V. These are the actual interrupting currents for DC loads—important when sizing for solenoid or brake circuits where DC arcing behavior differs from AC.
Switching frequency and mechanical life
Maximum switching frequency varies by duty: 1,000 cycles/hour for AC-1 resistive loads, 750 cycles/hour for AC-2 and AC-3 motor starting, 750 cycles/hour for AC-3e, and 250 cycles/hour for AC-4 inching/plugging. These limits reflect thermal buildup in the arc chamber—exceeding them shortens contact life. Mechanical life is rated at 30 million operations typical, which means the contactor itself will outlast most application cycles if kept within the electrical ratings. The arcing time is 10 to 15 ms, and DC switching time is 7 to 13 ms.
Termination and wiring
Main contact terminals accept solid or stranded wire from 0.5 to 4 mm², with the screw-type coil terminals matching that range. For dual-wire terminations, it accepts 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or 2x 4 mm². The main contacts also accept AWG 20 to 12. An auxiliary switch is included as standard, which saves adding a separate block for basic status feedback. Clearance distances are 10 mm upwards, forwards, and downwards, and 6 mm at the side—tight enough for dense DIN-rail layouts but still meeting IEC 60947-1 creepage requirements.
