What it is and where it fits
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT2017-1BM42 is a size S00 power contactor rated for switching motor and resistive loads in control panels. It uses a 24 VDC coil with screw-type terminals and mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. With a width of 45 mm and depth of 73 mm, it fits standard panel layouts. The contactor is rated for 10 A at 24 VDC and 3 A at 400 VAC, and provides 2 hp at 230 VAC — suitable for small motor and general switching duties.
Key ratings and what they mean for your panel
The DC-13 switching ratings tell you the contactor can handle inductive DC loads: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 48 V and 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V. This is the curve you use for solenoid valves, DC brake coils, and similar loads — the AC-1 or AC-3 ratings don't apply there. Operating temperature spans -25 °C to +60 °C, with storage from -55 °C to +80 °C. The mounting position allows +/-180° rotation on a vertical surface and +/-22.5° tilt — useful when the panel layout is tight. Mechanical life is rated at 30,000,000 operations typical. Maximum switching frequency at AC-1 is 1,000 cycles/hour, at AC-3 it's 750 cycles/hour, and at AC-4 it's 250 cycles/hour — the heavier the load, the fewer operations per hour the contactor can sustain.
Wiring and integration notes
Screw terminals accept solid or stranded wire: 0.5 to 4 mm² single, or 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or 2x 4 mm². Strip length is 10 mm for the main contacts. Clearance distances: 10 mm upwards, downwards, and forwards; 6 mm at the side. The contactor includes an auxiliary switch (1 NO + 1 NC). Arcing time is 10 to 15 ms; dropout time at DC is 7 to 13 ms. The coil hold-in voltage is 0.8 of rated value, with a full-scale pickup of 1.1 times rated.
