SIRIUS S00 Coupling Contactor — 24 VDC, 10 A DC-13
The Siemens 3RT2017-1SB42 is a SIRIUS coupling contactor in the compact S00 frame size, designed for switching DC loads up to 10 A at 24 V rated value in DC-13 duty — the category for solenoid and electromagnetic loads where the inrush can exceed steady-state current. The 24 V coil holds at 0.85 of rated value and drops out at 1.85 times rated, giving a clean pick-up and drop-out margin for control circuits. Screw-type terminals accept solid or stranded conductors from 0.5 to 4 mm², with dual-wire capability up to 2x 2.5 mm². Rated for continuous operation from -25 to +60 °C ambient, with storage range of -55 to +80 °C. The contactor mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, and the mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface plus ±22.5° tilt forward/backward — useful when panel layout forces an unconventional orientation.
Switching Rates and Duty Cycles
Maximum switching rates vary by duty: 1,000 operations per hour at AC-1 (resistive), 750/h at AC-2 and AC-3 (motor starting/running), and 250/h at AC-4 (plugging/inching). The arcing time runs 10 to 15 ms, and the DC switching time spans 5 to 20 ms depending on load inductance. For a coupling contactor — typically used to isolate control signals or switch DC solenoids — the DC-13 rating at 24 V (10 A) is the headline figure; at 48 V the same contactor handles 2 A, and at 125 V it handles 0.9 A, so derate accordingly for higher-voltage DC circuits.
Panel Integration — S00 Footprint
The S00 frame measures 45 mm wide, 58 mm high, and 73 mm deep — a compact footprint that fits tightly on DIN-rail assemblies. Clearance requirements: 10 mm upward, 10 mm forward, 10 mm downward, and 6 mm to the side. The screw terminals accept 0.5 to 4 mm² solid or stranded, and two conductors per clamp are allowed (2x 0.5–1.5 mm², 2x 0.75–2.5 mm², or 2x 4 mm²). No auxiliary switch is included on this variant — if you need auxiliary contacts, plan for a separate block.
