Panel fit and wiring
The 3RT2017-2BM42-ZW97 is a Size S00 power contactor from the Siemens SIRIUS family, designed for switching motor loads in control panels. Its 45 mm width and 70 mm height fit standard DIN-rail enclosures; depth is 73 mm including coil terminals. Mounting is screw or snap-on onto 35 mm rail per DIN EN 60715, with ±180° rotation on a vertical surface and ±22.5° tilt forward/backward — useful when panel layout is tight. Spring-type terminals on the coil and main contacts accept solid or stranded wire from 0.5 to 4 mm², or two conductors of the same range. Strip length and ferrule sizing follow standard practice for cage-clamp style; no screw torque to verify. Clearance to adjacent components: 10 mm upwards, forwards, and downwards; 6 mm at the sides.
Duty ratings and switching life
Coil is 24 VDC rated; the contactor holds in at nominal and drops out below the release threshold typical for this class. Main contact ratings vary by load type: at AC-1 (resistive) the maximum switching rate is 1,000 cycles per hour; at AC-3 (motor starting) it is 750 cycles per hour; at AC-4 (inching/plugging) it drops to 250 cycles per hour. The AC-3e rating also sits at 750 cycles per hour. Mechanical life is rated at 30 million operations typical. Switching capacity for DC loads: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 48 V and 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.9 A at 125 V, 0.3 A at 220 V. At 400 V AC the rated operational current is 3 A. Arcing time is 10 to 15 ms; DC operating time is 7 to 13 ms. Ambient operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage range is -55 to +80 °C.
