Integrator's note on the 3RT2017-2FF42
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT2017-2FF42 is a Size S00 power contactor with a 110 V AC coil and spring-type terminals on both main and auxiliary contacts. It snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715 and can be mounted in any orientation within ±180° rotation on a vertical surface, plus ±22.5° tilt forward/backward — useful when panel space forces a non-standard angle. The auxiliary switch is built in, so no separate add-on block is needed for a single N.O. or N.C. feedback leg. Rated switching frequency at AC-3 duty (motor loads) is 750 operations per hour, and at AC-4 (plugging/inching) it drops to 250 ops/h. The DC coil drop-out time spans 38 to 65 ms; arcing time runs 10 to 15 ms. For thermal sizing, the contactor is rated for 10 A at 24 V DC and 3 A at 400 V AC. The 230 V rating is expressed as 2 hp, matching typical single-phase motor loads in that voltage class.
Panel integration and wiring
Spring-type terminals accept solid or stranded wire from 0.5 to 4 mm², or two conductors of the same cross-section (2x 0.5 to 4 mm²). Strip length and ferrule spec follow the usual spring-cage practice — no tool needed beyond a screwdriver for the release slot. The 45 mm width matches the S00 footprint, leaving room for adjacent devices on the DIN rail. Clearance requirements: 10 mm upward, 10 mm forward, 10 mm downward, and 6 mm to the side — critical when packing relays or terminals next to it.
