Switching frequency and thermal limits
Maximum switching rates are 1,000 cycles per hour for AC-1 resistive loads, 750 cycles per hour for AC-3 motor starting, and 250 cycles per hour for AC-4 inching/plugging duty. The arcing time is 10 ms, and the coil operates on AC with pick-up times of 4 to 16 ms. For a line-down replacement, these numbers tell you the contactor can keep up with a fast cycling process without overheating the coil or welding the contacts.
