What it is and what it does
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT2035-3AG60 is a size S2 power contactor built for switching motor loads in industrial control panels. It carries a 480 V rated value of 40 A, which tells you the continuous current it can handle at that voltage level — useful for sizing against a motor nameplate or resistive load bank. The spring-type terminals on the magnet coil mean no screwdriver needed for the control wiring; strip, push, done.
Mounting and integration
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. The mounting position allows +/-180° rotation on a vertical surface and can be tilted forward/backward by +/-22.5°. Clearance specs: 10 mm upwards, 10 mm forwards, 10 mm downwards, 6 mm at the side. That 55 mm width and 114 mm height, 130 mm depth footprint fits standard panel layouts — just watch the side clearance if you're packing multiple contactors side-by-side.
Switching performance and thermal limits
Rated for 1 200 operations per hour at AC-1 (resistive), 1 000 at AC-3 (motor start/run), and 300 at AC-4 (plugging/inching). The arcing time runs 10 to 20 ms, and the closing time at AC is 10 to 18 ms. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage range is -55 to +80 °C. The mechanical life of the contactor typical is 10 000 000 operations — that's the mechanical endurance, not the electrical life under load, which depends on your switching duty and current.
