SIRIUS Size S2 power contactor with auxiliary switch
The Siemens 3RT2036-1AB00-1AA0 is a SIRIUS power contactor in Size S2, built for motor switching and resistive loads in control panels. It carries an auxiliary switch (1 NO + 1 NC) for feedback or interlock circuits, so you don't need a separate add-on block for basic status signaling. Rated 52 A at 480 V, this contactor handles a 3-phase motor load up to that current in AC-3 duty — the rating that matters for squirrel-cage motor starting. The AC-3 maximum switching rate is 800 operations per hour, which covers most conveyor and pump cycling without derating. Mounting is screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, so it drops into any standard panel rail. The S2 footprint (55 mm wide, 114 mm tall, 130 mm deep) fits alongside other SIRIUS S2 components — overload relays, contactor assemblies — on the same rail.
Integration — clearances and wiring
Minimum clearances to adjacent metalwork: 10 mm upward, 10 mm downward, 10 mm forward, 6 mm to the side. These are the free-air spacings for arc containment and heat dissipation — respect them in a dense panel to avoid nuisance tripping or flashover. Main contact wiring accepts 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded copper. Coil terminals are screw-type, rated for 24 V 50 Hz, drawing 10 A at that voltage. The coil hold-in is reliable down to about 18 V; dropout below that.
Environmental and mechanical ratings
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage range is -55 to +80 °C. The contactor is rated for 10 million mechanical operations typical — a solid MTBF for a panel-mounted power contactor in continuous duty. Arcing time is 10 to 20 ms, and the make/break time (at AC) is 10 to 18 ms. These are fast enough for most motor control circuits but should be coordinated with upstream short-circuit protection (fuse or MCCB) to ensure selectivity.
