SIRIUS S2 power contactor for motor and resistive loads
The Siemens 3RT2036-1AG20 is a SIRIUS S2 power contactor with screw-type terminals, designed for switching motor loads and resistive circuits in industrial control panels. It mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, and the mounting position allows +/-180° rotation on a vertical surface plus +/-22.5° tilt forward and backward, giving panel builders flexibility in tight enclosures. Rated at 52 A at 480 V in AC-3 duty, this contactor handles typical three-phase induction motor switching up to that current. The AC-3 rating is the one that governs motor starting and running — the contactor is sized for that load, not the higher AC-1 resistive rating. Switching frequency reaches 800 operations per hour at AC-3, suitable for moderate-duty cycling on conveyors, pumps, and compressors. The main contact configuration is listed as 18...1, indicating a 3-pole main contact block with one normally open auxiliary contact built in. An auxiliary switch is present, and its ratings span 10 A at 24 V up to 0.3 A at 220 V, covering typical PLC and relay interface voltages.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, storage from -55 to +80 °C — the storage limit governs handling and warehousing, not running conditions. The contactor is rated for use in environments where ambient panel temperature stays within that operating band.
Dimensions and panel fit
The S2 frame measures 114 mm high, 55 mm wide, and 130 mm deep. Clearance requirements: 10 mm upwards, 10 mm forwards, 10 mm downwards, and 6 mm at the side. These spacings are for arc flash and heat dissipation — respect them in the enclosure layout, especially when grouping multiple contactors on a DIN rail. Screw-type terminals accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire. The arcing time is 10 to 20 ms, and the closing time (at AC) is 10 to 18 ms — these are useful for coordination studies in selectivity analysis.
