AC-3 motor rating and duty-cycle limits
Rated 52 A at 480 V in AC-3 duty, this Size S2 contactor switches standard squirrel-cage motors up to that current during starting and running — the 52 A figure is the load current the main contacts close and break under motor-start conditions, not a resistive-heating rating. The maximum mechanical switching frequency is 800 operations per hour in AC-3 and AC-3e duty, dropping to 250 ops/h in AC-4 (plugging/inching) — the AC-4 limit reflects the higher electrical wear from breaking locked-rotor current, so plan the application cycle accordingly. Mechanical endurance is rated at 10 million typical operations, giving a long service life in high-cycle conveyor or pump applications before the contactor needs replacement.
Mounting, clearances, and panel integration
Fastens by screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715 — the snap-on feature speeds panel assembly and replacement without tools, while the screw option secures it in high-vibration environments. Dimensions are 55 mm wide, 114 mm high, and 130 mm deep — the width fits a standard 55 mm module slot on the DIN rail, leaving 6 mm clearance at the side and 10 mm in all other directions for air circulation and wiring access. Mounting position is flexible: +/-180° rotation on a vertical surface and +/-22.5° tilt forward/backward, so the contactor fits tight enclosures or non-standard panel layouts without derating.
Coil termination and auxiliary contact provision
The magnet coil terminates via spring-type terminals — push-in or screwdriver-actuated connection for solid or ferruled stranded wire, accepting 2x 0.5 to 2.5 mm² per clamp, which eliminates screw torque verification during commissioning. An auxiliary switch is built in (18...1 configuration on main contacts), allowing feedback to the PLC or status indication without a separate add-on block for basic applications.
Environmental range and storage
Operates from -25 °C to +60 °C ambient, covering most indoor panel environments including unheated warehouses; storage range extends from -55 °C to +80 °C, so spares can sit on the shelf for years without degradation. The arcing time of 10 to 20 ms and operate time of 10 to 18 ms at AC are within typical PLC scan-cycle expectations — the PLC input filter should be set longer than 20 ms to capture the contactor's status change reliably.
