Spring-type terminals on the coil circuit mean no screwdriver needed for the control wiring — strip, push, done. That saves a few minutes per panel when you're wiring a dozen of these.
Coil voltage and switching rhythm
Coil pickup range is 175...280 V AC/DC, with a rated-value inrush peak of 5 A and a holding draw of 2 VA at both 50 and 60 Hz. That 2 VA steady-state is low enough that a standard 24 VDC supply driving a PLC output can handle it — but the 5 A inrush means you want a contactor-rated output, not a bare logic card.
Clearances and panel fit
Dimensions are 114 mm high, 55 mm wide, 130 mm deep. The S2 frame is the mid-size in the SIRIUS contactor family — bigger than an S0, smaller than an S3. That 6 mm side gap is tight enough that you can row them on the rail with standard end brackets, but leave the full 10 mm vertical for heat rise if you're stacking contactors above each other. That covers most panel orientations, but if you're mounting it upside-down, verify the coil's dropout voltage isn't affected by gravity on the armature — the datasheet doesn't flag a restriction, but it's worth a bench test on the first unit.
Lifecycle stage is marked as current, meaning Siemens still lists this as an active catalog number. No end-of-life notice or last-time-buy date is on record.
