What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT2037-3XF40-0LA2 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the Size S2 frame, designed for switching motor loads and resistive circuits in industrial control panels. It carries 65 A at 480 V and 52 A at 600 V, which means it handles moderate-to-heavy motor duty up to those levels without derating the main poles. The DC coil is rated 110 V nominal, with spring-type terminals on the magnet coil — no screw torque to check, just strip and insert. Mounting is screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, so it drops into any standard panel rail. The mounting position is flexible: ±180° rotation on a vertical surface, and can be tilted forward/backward by ±22.5° on that same surface. That gives panel builders room to fit it into tight layouts without worrying about orientation limits.
Clearances and integration
Panel clearance requirements are specific: 10 mm upwards, 10 mm forwards, 10 mm downwards, and 6 mm at the side. Those are the minimum air gaps around the contactor for heat dissipation and arc containment. The arcing time is 10 to 20 ms, and the DC operate time is 30 to 55 ms — both matter when coordinating with upstream protection or sequencing multiple contactors in a motor control center. The auxiliary switch is built in (yes), and the main contact count is 18 normally open, 1 normally closed — that's a 3-pole plus auxiliary configuration typical for motor starting with feedback. Wire termination accepts 2x (0.5 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded, spring-cage style, so no ferrule needed for stranded unless your shop standard requires it.
Environmental and duty ratings
Operating temperature range is -40 to +70 °C, storage from -55 to +80 °C. That covers most indoor industrial environments and unheated warehouses. The maximum switching rate at AC-4 duty (plugging/inching) is 200 operations per hour — useful to know if you're cycling a reversing starter hard. Mechanical life is typical 10 million operations, so the contactor will outlast most machinery it's installed in.
