SIRIUS S2 power contactor for motor and resistive loads
The Siemens 3RT2038-1AG24 is a SIRIUS-brand power contactor in the S2 frame size, rated for 65 A at 480 V. It mounts via screw fixing or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, with a width of 55 mm, height of 114 mm, and depth of 174 mm. The mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface and ±22.5° tilt forward or backward, giving panel builders flexibility in tight enclosures. Main contact wiring accepts 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded conductors at the screw-type terminals. The coil is also screw-terminal terminated. No auxiliary switch is integrated on this base variant.
Switching capacity and operating rates across duty classes
The contactor's maximum operating rate varies by duty class: 700 cycles per hour at AC-1 (resistive), 500 cycles per hour at AC-3 (standard motor starting), and 150 cycles per hour at AC-4 (plugging/inching). The AC-3e rating matches the AC-3 rate at 500 cycles per hour. Arcing time spans 10 to 20 ms, with closing time between 10 and 18 ms. These figures define the thermal and mechanical limits for repetitive switching applications. Mechanical endurance is rated at 10 million typical operations. The contactor is designed for an ambient operating range of -25 to +60 °C, with storage tolerance from -55 to +80 °C. Clearance requirements are 10 mm upward, forward, and downward, with 6 mm at the sides.
Panel integration and mounting
The S2 frame contactor occupies 55 mm of DIN rail width. Screw fixing provides a secure mount in high-vibration environments; snap-on mounting suits rapid assembly. The ±180° rotation and ±22.5° tilt allowances simplify orientation in multi-row panels. Clearance of 10 mm on three sides and 6 mm laterally ensures adequate air circulation for heat dissipation within the -25 to +60 °C operating range.
