What it is and where it fits
The Siemens 3RT2038-1NE30 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S2 frame size, designed for switching motor loads and resistive loads in industrial control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, with a mounting position that allows +/-180° rotation on a vertical surface and +/-22.5° tilt forward/backward — useful for tight enclosure layouts. The coil accepts 48 to 80 VDC, with pickup at 0.8x rated value and dropout below that; inrush current peaks at 1 A. Coil terminals are screw-type, and the contactor includes an auxiliary switch.
What the ratings mean for fit
The S2 frame size and 55 mm width are the first fit check: this contactor occupies a standard 55 mm wide DIN-rail footprint. Depth of 130 mm and height of 114 mm govern enclosure depth and gland-plate clearance — allow 10 mm clearance upwards, downwards, and forwards, and 6 mm at the sides for airflow and arc flash clearance. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage range is -55 to +80 °C. The arcing time of 10–20 ms and switching rates (700 ops/h at AC-1, 500 ops/h at AC-3, 150 ops/h at AC-4) tell you the thermal duty cycle — AC-4 (plugging/inching) derates the contactor significantly, so plan the application accordingly.
