SIRIUS S2 power contactor, 65 A AC-3 — what fits
The Siemens 3RT2038-3AF00 is a SIRIUS S2 power contactor rated 65 A at 480 V in AC-3 duty — that's the motor-switching current, not the resistive load. AC-3 covers starting and running of squirrel-cage motors, so this contactor handles a 65 A motor load at that voltage. The S2 frame size (114 mm high, 55 mm wide, 130 mm deep) mounts via screw fixing or snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. Clearances: 10 mm upwards, forwards, and downwards; 6 mm at the sides. Coil termination is spring-type.
Switching ratings and operating limits
The contactor's arcing time spans 10 to 20 ms, with an operate time of 10 to 18 ms at AC. Maximum switching frequency varies by duty: 700 cycles/hour at AC-1 (resistive), 500 at AC-3 (motor start/run), 350 at AC-2, and 150 at AC-4 (plugging/inching). The auxiliary switch is included. Mechanical life is typical at 10 million operations.
Environmental and mounting
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage from -55 to +80 °C. Mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface, and tilting forward/backward by ±22.5° on a vertical surface. The spring-type coil terminals accept 2x (0.5 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire.
