The Siemens 3RT2046-1AM00-1AA0 is a SIRIUS power contactor, size S3, rated for 96 A in AC-3 duty — that is the motor-switching current, the figure that governs whether it holds a 45 kW or 55 kW induction motor on the line without welding its main poles shut. The coil is screw-type terminals, 24 VDC nominal. The auxiliary contact block is included — one normally-open, one normally-closed, rated 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 48 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.9 A at 125 V, 0.3 A at 220 V, 3 A at 400 V, 0.8 A at 440 V. That covers the control-voltage range you will find in a 480 V panel; the 24 V rating is the one you will use for a PLC output.
Wire terminations and conductor range
Main power terminals accept solid conductors from 2.5 to 16 mm² and stranded from 6 to 70 mm². Auxiliary terminals accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²).
Thermal limits and endurance
The arcing time is 10 to 20 ms at 50 Hz; the switching frequency limits are 900 operations per hour at AC-1, 350 at AC-2, 850 at AC-3, 250 at AC-4. For a motor starter cycling a conveyor every 30 seconds, the AC-3 limit of 850 ops/h is comfortable; for a jogging application at AC-4, the 250 ops/h limit is the binding constraint.
