S3 frame, 70 mm wide — panel fit first
The 3RT2046-1NB34 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S3 frame size, 70 mm wide, 140 mm tall, 195 mm deep — the width is the dimension that governs DIN-rail spacing in a crowded enclosure. Mounting is screw-and-snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, with ±180° rotation and ±22.5° tilt on a vertical surface, so it fits into retrofit panels where the rail orientation isn't ideal.
Coil drive and wiring
The magnet coil uses screw-type terminals and draws a 6.5 A inrush peak — the coil hold-in power is 3.5 VA at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, so a 24 VDC control transformer sized for 10 A inrush handles the start surge without sag. Power wiring accepts solid conductors 2.5…16 mm² or stranded 6…70 mm²; control wiring takes 2×(0.5…1.5 mm²) or 2×(0.75…2.5 mm²) — no need for ferrule adapters on the main terminals for typical panel wire.
Switching duty and mechanical life
The contactor is rated for 850 operations per hour in AC-3 and AC-3e duty, 900/h in AC-1 (resistive), 350/h in AC-2, and 250/h in AC-4 — the AC-4 figure is the one to watch for plugging or inching applications; it limits the cycle rate to about four per minute. Typical mechanical life is 10 million operations, and the arcing time is 10…20 ms — the contactor is built for high-cycle conveyor or pump start-stop duty without premature weld risk.
Sourcing and lifecycle
Operating temperature range is -25…+60 °C, storage -55…+80 °C — suitable for unheated plant-floor enclosures in most climates.
