S3 Frame, DIN-Rail Mount, 175-280 V Coil
The 3RT2047-1NP30 is a Siemens SIRIUS S3 power contactor — the S3 frame size tells you the physical envelope and the current-handling tier within the SIRIUS family. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715, with a +/-180° rotation range on a vertical surface and +/-22.5° tilt allowance forward/backward, so panel layout is flexible as long as the rail is there. The coil is rated 175-280 V AC/DC with an inrush peak of 65 A and a holding power draw of 3.5 VA at both 50 and 60 Hz. That wide-range coil covers 208-277 V nominal supplies without needing a separate control transformer tap — one part number for 240 V or 277 V control circuits.
Switching Duty and Mechanical Life
Maximum switching rates: 850 operations per hour in AC-3 and AC-3e duty, 900 in AC-1 (resistive), 350 in AC-2, and 200 in AC-4. The AC-3 rate is the one that matters for standard motor starting — 850 ops/h means it handles frequent start/stop cycles on conveyors or pumps without overheating the coil or arc chamber. Mechanical life is 10 million operations typical for the contactor itself. Arcing time is 10-20 ms, and the dropout/pickup times are 38-57 ms for both AC and DC coils — consistent enough for sequencing logic that doesn't need sub-cycle coordination.
Panel Fit and Wiring Capacity
Dimensions: 70 mm wide, 140 mm tall, 152 mm deep. The width is the critical panel-spacing number — at 70 mm it occupies three standard 22.5 mm module positions on the DIN rail. Clearance requirements: 10 mm above and below, 20 mm forward, 10 mm sideways. Main power terminals accept solid wire 2.5-16 mm² or stranded 6-70 mm². Auxiliary terminals take 2x (0.5-1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75-2.5 mm²) solid or stranded. That's enough cross-section for motor feeders up to about 50-60 A depending on cable type and ambient — the S3 frame typically pairs with overload relays in the same size class.
Sourcing and Lifecycle
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, storage -55 to +80 °C. The auxiliary switch is included as standard. Compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH, UL, IEC) is provided with the shipment per Siemens standard practice.
