It is rated for 9 A at 400 V in AC-3 duty, delivering 4 kW motor switching at that voltage. The coil picks up at 0.8 x rated voltage and drops out at 0.1 x rated, with operating times of 7 to 13 ms on DC and arcing times of 10 to 15 ms.

The contactor measures 45 mm wide, 70 mm high, and 73 mm deep.
Wiring and Connections
Main current circuit uses spring-loaded terminals. Solid wire accepts 2 x (0.5 to 2.5 mm²); stranded accepts 0.5 to 4 mm², or 2 x (0.5 to 4 mm²). The magnet coil connection is also spring-type. Up to two auxiliary contacts can be attached.
Electrical Ratings and Protection
Power loss at AC in hot operating state is 4.4 W. The contactor handles AC-3 and AC-4 loads equally at 4 kW at 400 V. For a direct comparison, the sibling 3RT2024-2BB40 is a size S0 contactor with a higher current rating — the 3RT2316-2BB40 is the correct choice when panel space and lower current (9 A) are the constraints.
