Rated switching currents — what the DC ratings mean
The 3RT2517-1BE40: That steep derating curve is normal for DC switching — the arc extinguishes slower on DC than AC, so the contact gap limits the voltage you can break at a given current. For a 24 VDC solenoid or small motor brake, the 10 A rating gives comfortable headroom. At 230 V AC the contactor is rated 10 A, and at 400 V AC it's 3 A — these AC ratings follow the same pattern but with higher currents because the arc self-extinguishes at the zero crossing.
Panel fit and mounting flexibility
Clearance requirements are tight: zero mm spacing upwards, forwards, and backwards, with only 6 mm needed at the sides for heat dissipation. That means you can pack these contactors side-by-side without derating.
Terminals and wiring
Both the main current circuit and the coil use screw-type terminals — standard for industrial panels where ring lugs or ferrules are the norm. An auxiliary switch is built in, saving a separate add-on block for basic feedback or status signalling.
