The Siemens 3RT2916-1BF00 is a SIRIUS surge suppressor built around a varistor, designed to clamp voltage transients across the coil of 3RT2 contactors and 3RH2 auxiliary contactors. It clips onto the contactor's front face — no extra wiring needed — and shunts spikes that would otherwise eat into the coil insulation or cause nuisance dropouts on a dirty line.
The 9 mm depth and 28 mm width keep it inside the contactor's silhouette — no extra panel depth eaten up, no gland-plate rework when retrofitting into a stuffed enclosure. Clip-on fastening and any mounting position mean it snaps onto the contactor in seconds, oriented however the wire routing demands.
Because it clips onto the contactor rather than occupying its own DIN-rail slot, the 3RT2916-1BF00 doesn't consume rail real estate. In a dense panel where every millimeter of DIN rail is already spoken for, that's the difference between fitting the circuit and needing a sub-panel.
