Siemens SIRIUS 3RT6016-1BB41 — Size S00 Power Contactor, 24 V DC Coil
The Siemens 3RT6016-1BB41 is a Size S00 power contactor from the SIRIUS family, designed for switching motor loads and resistive circuits in industrial control panels. It carries a 24 V DC coil rated at 6 A pick-up current, and is rated for AC-3 and AC-3e duty up to 690 V, making it suitable for switching three-phase induction motors up to 13 kW at 400 V or 22 kW at 690 V at 60 °C ambient. The coil holds at 24 V DC nominal; the 6 A pick-up current is what the control circuit needs to see at the moment of energisation. The contactor's AC-3 rating at 690 V is the maximum voltage for switching motor loads — the actual motor power you can switch depends on the line voltage and ambient temperature, with the 400 V / 13 kW and 690 V / 22 kW figures at 60 °C being the key sizing points. Mounting is via screw fixing or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022. The contactor can be rotated ±180° on a vertical surface and tilted ±22.5° forward/backward, giving flexibility in tight panel layouts. Side-by-side mounting is supported, so multiple contactors can be ganged without additional spacing.
Terminals and Wiring
Both main and auxiliary/control circuits use screw-type terminals. The main circuit terminals accept 2 x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2 x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or 2 x 4 mm² solid or stranded copper, or 2 x (20 to 16), 2 x (18 to 14), or 2 x 12 AWG. For the main contacts, the minimum permissible cross-section is 4 mm² at 40 °C and 2.5 mm² at 60 °C — important for derating when the panel runs hot.
Operating Conditions and Mechanical Life
The contactor operates from -25 to +60 °C and can be stored from -55 to +80 °C. Mechanical life is rated at 30,000,000 operating cycles typical. Maximum switching frequency depends on the duty: 1,000 cycles/hour at AC-1, 750 at AC-3/AC-3e, 250 at AC-4, and 10,000 at DC. The auxiliary switch extension option (Product Extension Auxiliary Switch: Yes) allows adding feedback contacts for status monitoring.
