Integrator's spec recap — S00 contactor, 3-pole, AC coil
The Siemens 3RT7017-1AQ01 is a 3-pole contactor in the SIRIUS S00 frame — the smallest footprint in the family, at 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm tall, and 72 mm deep. It is rated for AC-3 switching duty: 6 A at 230 V, 3 A at 400 V, and 1 A at 690 V. The 230 V AC coil draws 0.27 A at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz (holding power 0.27 W DC, closing power 0.8 W DC). Main and auxiliary/control terminals are screw-type, rated for 2x (0.5–1.5 mm²) solid/stranded or 2x (0.75–2.5 mm²) finely stranded with ferrules. The auxiliary contacts are rated for PLC-level switching — 17 V, 5 mA minimum — so they can drive a digital input directly without a separate interface relay. Pollution degree 3 (conductive pollution, typical for industrial control panels) and 6 kV surge voltage resistance give it the clearance for uncoated PCBs and standard panel wiring. Mounting is screw-and-snap-on to 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with no derating gap, which matters when packing multiple contactors into a narrow enclosure. The operating temperature range is -10 to +55 °C; storage from -25 to +70 °C.
DIN-rail integration — S00 frame, side-by-side, IP20
The 45 mm width of the S00 frame fits two contactors per standard 100 mm DIN-rail segment. Because side-by-side mounting is allowed with no spacing, you can fill a rail without wasting panel width. The IP20 finger-safe terminals (front and terminal) meet the touch-protection requirement for a standard control cabinet — no additional shrouding needed for the contactor itself. Mounting position is flexible: ±180° rotation on a vertical surface, and ±22.5° tilt forward/backward. That covers most cabinet layouts, including swing-panel and back-panel mounting.
Coordination and protection — fuse sizing
For type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor under short circuit), the required upstream fuse is a gL/gG NH 3NA: 20 A. For type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after fault), the same fuse type is rated 35 A. These values apply to the main circuit; the control circuit is separately protected by the coil's own thermal characteristics.
