Siemens 3RT7036-1AM00 — SIRIUS Size S2 Contactor
The 3RT7036-1AM00 is a Siemens SIRIUS Size S2 contactor with three main poles, all normally open (3 NO), and screw-type terminals for the main and auxiliary circuits. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022, and the mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface plus ±22.5° tilt forward/backward — useful when you're squeezing it into a crowded panel and need to orient the coil terminals toward the wireway. The front panel carries an IP20 rating (finger-safe), while the terminals themselves are IP00 — meaning the connection points are exposed once the front cover is off, so keep that in mind during live work.
55 mm wide, 112 mm tall, 115 mm deep. Side-by-side mounting is allowed — no derating gap required. The contactor is rated for AC-3 and AC-3e duty up to 690 V maximum, with a maximum switching frequency of 800 operations per hour under AC-3 and 250 per hour under AC-4 (the heavier inching/jogging duty). That 800/h figure at AC-3 means it'll handle frequent starting of a motor load — a conveyor or pump cycling every 4.5 seconds — without overheating the coil or contacts. Coil holding power at DC is 0.36 W; closing surge is 0.79 W. Auxiliary contacts are rated for PLC-level reliability (17 V, 5 mA).
Fuse Coordination and Short-Circuit Protection
For type of coordination 2 (the stricter standard that allows no welding after a short circuit), the required upstream fuse is a gL/gG NH 3NA rated 80 A. For type 1 coordination (welding permitted, but no fire risk), the same fuse type is rated 160 A. These are the values for the main circuit — if you're building to IEC 60947-4-1, this saves you the coordination study.
