S2 contactor with AC coil — panel fit and switching limits
The 3RT7036-1AQ00 is a Siemens SIRIUS S2 contactor, size S2, with three main poles and an AC-operated coil. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022, and the mounting position allows ±180° rotation on a vertical surface plus ±22.5° tilt forward or backward — useful when fitting into a crowded enclosure. Rated insulation voltage is 690 V, with surge voltage resistance at 6 kV. The AC-3 maximum switching frequency is 800 operations per hour; under AC-4 duty that drops to 250 operations per hour — a real constraint if you're jogging or plug-reversing a motor frequently. The front face carries an IP20 rating; the terminal area is IP00, so the contactor needs to live inside a panel or enclosure that provides the environmental seal. Side-by-side mounting is allowed, which helps when building multi-contactor motor starter banks.
Coil and auxiliary circuit details
Control supply voltage is AC only. The magnet coil draws 0.79 W closing power and holds at 0.36 W DC — that's the steady-state dissipation you need to account for in the control transformer sizing. Auxiliary contacts are rated for PLC-level reliability: the contact reliability spec says they're acceptable for PLC control at 17 V, 5 mA. That means you can drive a 24 V DC PLC input directly without worrying about oxide film on the contacts. Both main and auxiliary circuits use screw-type terminals. The main circuit accepts 2x (0.5…1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75…2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire, same for finely stranded with ferrules. That's a standard range for control panel wiring — no oddball lug sizes.
