Siemens 3RU1116-0AB0 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay, size S00, CLASS 10 trip, protecting three-phase motors against overload and phase failure.
CLASS 10 trip class defines maximum trip time at locked-rotor current. For motors accelerating in under 10 seconds, it provides protection without nuisance tripping. The relay is rated for a surge voltage of 6 kV, which means it can withstand transient overvoltages common in industrial power distribution without insulation breakdown — important for installations where the supply is subject to switching surges or lightning-induced spikes. Shock resistance of 8g / 10 ms means it will hold its settings and not trip falsely under vibration from nearby contactors, motor starters, or conveyor impacts — a practical concern on machine-tool or material-handling lines.
This relay is sized for the SIRIUS S00 contactor frame — it bolts directly onto the contactor without additional wiring between the contactor and relay for the main current path. The main current circuit uses screw-type terminals accepting 2x (0.5... 1.5 mm²) or 2x (0.75... 2.5 mm²) solid or finely stranded wire with ferrules, and the auxiliary/control circuit uses the same screw terminal style. Operating temperature range is -20 to +70 °C, with storage and transport range of -55 to +80 °C, and it can operate in 100% relative humidity — fine for unheated plant floors or outdoor cabinets in temperate climates.
