What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RU1116-0FB0 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in Size S00, designed for 3-pole motor protection with screw-type terminals on both main and auxiliary circuits. Trip Class 10 means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current — standard for protecting general-purpose induction motors against sustained overload without nuisance tripping on startup inrush. Rated for contactor mounting directly onto a matching S00 contactor, saving panel space and wiring compared to a separate base-mount relay.
Where it fits and how it mounts
Dimensions: 45 mm wide, 87 mm tall, 78 mm deep — a compact footprint that fits standard S00 contactor stacks. Mounting position is flexible: vertical surface with ±135° rotation and ±45° tilt forward/back, so it adapts to tight panel layouts. Clearance requirements: 0 mm upwards, forwards, backwards, and downwards; 6 mm at the side — nearly zero-gap stacking possible.
Terminal specs and wiring
Main circuit terminals accept solid conductors: 2x (0.5...1.5 mm²) and 2x (0.75...2.5 mm²); AWG equivalents: 2x (20...16), 2x (18...14), and 2x 12. Auxiliary/control circuit terminals also accept 2x (0.5...1.5 mm²) and 2x (0.75...2.5 mm²) solid, with AWG 2x (20...16) and 2x (18...14). Finely stranded conductors with ferrule: same ranges as solid — 2x (0.5...1.5 mm²) and 2x (0.75...2.5 mm²).
Environmental and compliance
Operating temperature range -20 to +70 °C; storage and transport -55 to +80 °C. Rated for 100 % relative humidity during operation. Shock resistance 8g / 10 ms; surge voltage withstand 6 kV. IP20 protection on the front face — suitable for enclosed panels, not open washdown. ATEX certification (DMT 98 ATEX G 001) for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. RoHS substance prohibition date 01.07.2006.
