The Siemens 3RU1116-0GB0-ZX95 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in size S00, designed to protect three-phase motors against overload and phase failure. Its Trip Class 10 characteristic means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current — the standard for standard-start induction motors where the rotor accelerates quickly. The relay mounts directly to a SIRIUS contactor (contactor mounting,) and occupies a 45 mm wide DIN-rail footprint.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
The auxiliary contact ratings tell you what control voltage it can switch: 1 A at 24 V, 3 A at 120 V, 2 A at 230 V, and 1 A at 400 V. These are the make/break limits for the N/C and N/O contacts that feed the PLC or starter coil. The 6 kV surge voltage rating means the relay can withstand transient overvoltages common in industrial panels without flashover — important for reliability in high-inductance circuits. The relay is approved under DMT 98 ATEX G 001, so it is qualified for use in potentially explosive gas atmospheres. The IP20 protection on the front means it is finger-safe but not sealed against moisture — install inside a panel, not in a washdown zone. Shock resistance of 8g for 10 ms covers most industrial vibration environments.
Mounting and wiring
Mounting position is flexible: the relay can be rotated ±135° on a vertical surface, or tilted ±45° forward/backward. That helps when panel layout forces an unusual orientation. The main circuit terminals accept solid conductors: 2× (0.5 … 1.5 mm²) and 2× (0.75 … 2.5 mm²), or AWG 20–16 and 18–14. Auxiliary terminals take 2× (20–16) and 2× (18–14) AWG. All terminals are screw-type. Clearance requirements: 0 mm upwards, forwards, backwards, and downwards; 6 mm at the side. That means it can be stacked tight vertically — no extra air gap needed above or below — but leave 6 mm to adjacent components on the sides for heat dissipation.
