SIRIUS 3RU1116-0HC1 — thermal overload relay for motor protection
The Siemens 3RU1116-0HC1 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in size S00, designed to protect motors against overload and phase failure. Its Class 10 trip characteristic means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current — fast enough to protect standard induction motors during a stall or locked-rotor event without nuisance tripping on normal starting transients. Rated for AC-3 duty up to 690 V, this relay is a direct fit for motor starters in control panels, conveyors, pumps, and fan applications where the contactor and overload share a common S00 footprint on the DIN rail.
Mounting and integration — S00 frame, stand-alone or direct to contactor
The 45 mm wide, 92 mm tall, 78 mm deep enclosure mounts stand-alone on a DIN rail or directly onto a S00 contactor. The mounting position allows ±135° rotation and ±45° tilt on a vertical surface, giving panel builders flexibility in tight cabinets. Cage clamp terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.5... 2.5 mm²) solid or 2x (0.5... 1.5 mm²) finely stranded with ferrules — no screwdriver needed for the power connections, which speeds up wiring in high-density panels. IP20 on the front face means it's protected against finger contact; suitable for enclosed panels where the relay is not exposed to washdown or dust ingress.
Environmental and compliance
Operating temperature range -20 to +70 °C, storage and transport from -55 to +80 °C. Shock rated at 8g for 10 ms, and surge voltage resistance at 6 kV. The relay carries ATEX protection type DMT 98 ATEX G 001 for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, and is reference-coded per DIN EN 81346-2 as function F. Rated for installation altitudes up to 2 000 m without derating, and operates in up to 100 % relative humidity.
