What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RU1116-1DB0-ZW95 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in the S00 frame size, designed for direct contactor mounting to protect 3-phase motor circuits against overload and phase failure. Its CLASS 10 trip characteristic means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current, matching the thermal protection needed for standard induction motors during a stalled-rotor condition. The relay is finger-safe (IP20 on the front) and carries ATEX approval (DMT 98 ATEX G 001) for use in potentially explosive gas atmospheres, so it can be deployed in Zone 2 or Zone 22 applications when paired with an appropriate contactor.
Mounting and integration
Mounts directly onto a SIRIUS S00 contactor without additional hardware — no DIN rail needed. The mounting position allows a vertical surface with ±135° rotation and ±45° tilt front-to-back, giving panel layout flexibility. Clearance distances: 0 mm upwards, forwards, backwards, and downwards; 6 mm at the side. This zero-clearance top/bottom mounting means the relay can be stacked tight against other components in a crowded enclosure, but the 6 mm side gap must be maintained for heat dissipation.
Wiring and conductor compatibility
Main and auxiliary circuit terminals accept solid or finely stranded conductors with core-end processing: 2× (0.5... 1.5 mm²) and 2× (0.75... 2.5 mm²) per clamp. For AWG, the auxiliary contacts accept 2× (20... 16) and 2× (18... 14). This gives flexibility for both European metric and North American wiring practices. The screw-type terminals are the same as the main circuit terminals, so the same screwdriver and torque setting work across all connections — no tool change for the auxiliary wiring.
