What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RU1116-1EB0-ZW96 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in Size S00, designed to protect three-phase motors against overload and phase failure. It mounts directly to a contactor (contactor mounting), saving DIN-rail space in the panel. Trip Class 10 means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current — standard for general-purpose motor protection on conveyor, pump, and fan loads.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
Rated for 3 main poles with screw-type terminals. The auxiliary contact block handles 1 A at 24 V, 2 A at 230 V, and 1 A at 400 V — enough for a PLC input or contactor coil feedback, but check your load against these ratings. Power dissipation is 1.9 W per pole, so three poles at full load add about 5.7 W of heat inside the enclosure — factor that into your thermal budget if the panel is densely packed.
Mechanical fit and mounting
Dimensions are 45 mm wide, 87 mm high, 78 mm deep. The 45 mm width matches the standard S00 contactor footprint — it snaps onto the contactor without extra DIN-rail space. Mounting position allows vertical surface with ±135° rotation and ±45° tilt front/back. Clearances: 0 mm upwards, forwards, backwards, and downwards; 6 mm at the sides. That zero-clearance spec means you can stack relays side-by-side without derating for spacing — useful when shrinking a panel.
Termination and wiring
Main circuit terminals accept solid or finely stranded conductors: 2×(0.5…1.5 mm²), 2×(0.75…2.5 mm²), and AWG equivalents 2×(20…16), 2×(18…14), 2×12. Auxiliary and control circuit terminals accept 2×(20…16) and 2×(18…14) AWG. All terminals are screw-type — no spring-cage option on this variant. Strip length and torque values are standard for SIRIUS screw terminals; use a ferrule for stranded wire to avoid loose strands under the screw.
