What it is and what the key ratings mean
The Siemens 3RU1116-1FB0-ZW97 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in Size S00, CLASS 10 trip. It protects three-phase motor circuits against overload and phase failure. It mounts directly onto a contactor (fastening method: contactor mounting), saving panel space and wiring. The mounting position allows ±135° rotation and ±45° tilt on a vertical surface, giving flexibility in tight enclosures. The front face carries an IP20 protection class, meaning it is finger-safe but not sealed against moisture — suitable for dry indoor control panels only. For environments with washdown or condensation, it needs a separate enclosure. It carries ATEX approval (DMT 98 ATEX G 001), so it can be used in potentially explosive gas atmospheres when paired with an appropriate contactor and housed in a certified enclosure.
Sourcing and lifecycle
RoHS compliance is documented with a substance prohibition date of 07/01/2006.
Panel integration and wiring
Dimensions: 45 mm wide, 87 mm high, 78 mm deep. Side clearance of 6 mm is required for heat dissipation; zero clearance needed upwards, forwards, backwards, or downwards. Main circuit terminals accept screw-type connections: 2× (0.5…1.5 mm²) solid or 2× (0.75…2.5 mm²) stranded, plus AWG equivalents 2× (20…16) and 2× (18…14). Auxiliary and control circuit terminals use the same screw-type format with 2× (20…16) and 2× (18…14) AWG. Power dissipation per pole is 2.2 W, totaling 6.6 W for the three-pole unit at rated current. This heat must be considered in enclosure sizing, especially when grouped with other devices. Shock resistance is rated at 8g for 10 ms, adequate for most industrial machinery but not for high-impact applications like forging presses without additional damping.
Auxiliary contact ratings
The built-in auxiliary contacts are rated for switching: 1 A at 24 V, 3 A at 120 V, 2 A at 230 V, 1 A at 400 V (AC), plus 0.22 A at 110 V, 0.22 A at 125 V, and 0.11 A at 220 V (DC). These are the maximum switching capacities — derate for inductive loads or high inrush.
