Thermal Overload Relay – SIRIUS Size S00, Class 10
The Siemens 3RU1116-1HB0-ZW95 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in size S00, designed for three-phase motor protection with screw-type terminals on both main and auxiliary/control circuits. Its Trip Class 10 means it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the current setting — the standard for standard-start induction motors where the starting transient clears before the protection window closes.
Mounting & Panel Integration
Fastens directly to a contactor via the contactor-mounting method — no DIN rail required, though the 45 mm width and 87 mm height keep it within a standard panel footprint. The mounting position allows rotation up to ±135° on a vertical surface and tilting ±45° forward/backward, giving flexibility for tight enclosure layouts. Clearance requirements: 0 mm upwards, forwards, and backwards; 6 mm at the side; 0 mm downwards. Depth is 78 mm including the relay body.
Environmental & Compliance
Rated IP20 on the front — protected against finger contact but not moisture ingress, so it belongs inside a sealed enclosure, not in a washdown zone. Operating temperature range is -20 to +70 °C; storage and transport extend to -55 to +80 °C. Shock resistance is 8 g for 10 ms. Surge voltage withstand is 6 kV. The relay carries ATEX approval DMT 98 ATEX G 001, making it suitable for use in potentially explosive gas atmospheres when paired with an appropriate contactor and installed per the system certificate.
Wiring & Termination
Main circuit terminals accept solid conductors: 2×(0.5…1.5 mm²) and 2×(0.75…2.5 mm²), or AWG 2×(20…16) and 2×(18…14) plus 2×12. Auxiliary/control terminals take 2×(0.5…1.5 mm²) and 2×(0.75…2.5 mm²) solid, or AWG 2×(20…16) and 2×(18…14). Finely stranded with core-end processing uses the same cross-sections. Power dissipation per pole is 2.2 W.
