What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RU2116-0EB0 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay, Size S00, with a thermal bimetallic release and integrated auxiliary switch. Trip class is CLASS 10. Rated voltage is 690 V, and the maximum AC-3e rated voltage is also 690 V. Power ratings at various line voltages: 0.09 kW at 400 V, 0.12 kW at 500 V, 0.18 kW at 690 V. The relay is temperature-compensated from -40 to +60 °C, so the trip curve stays stable across a wide panel ambient. Mounting is via contactor mounting — it snaps directly onto the matching SIRIUS contactor (size S00). Mounting position is any, which gives flexibility in tight cabinets. Screw-type terminals for the main circuit accept 2×(0.5…1.5 mm²) solid/stranded or 2×(0.75…2.5 mm²).
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
The auxiliary contact ratings tell you what the built-in switch can handle: 2 A at 24 V, 2 A at 230 V, 1 A at 400 V, and 3 A at 120 V. These are the make/break capacities for the N/C and N/O contacts — useful for feeding a PLC input or a contactor coil. At 60 V it's 0.3 A, at 110 V it's 0.22 A, at 125 V it's 0.22 A, at 220 V it's 0.11 A. The 0.4 A rating at 480 V and 600 V are for the main circuit at those line voltages. Power dissipation per pole is 1.6 W. In a panel with multiple relays, that heat adds up — the S00 frame keeps it manageable, but don't stack them without airflow if the ambient is near 70 °C. Operating temperature range is -40 to +70 °C; storage and transport range is -55 to +80 °C. Dimensions: width 45 mm, height 76 mm, depth 70 mm. That depth includes the overhang past the contactor face — measure your gland plate clearance before wiring.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Substance prohibition date is 10/01/2009.
Integration note
Fastening method is contactor mounting — no DIN rail required, it clips onto the SIRIUS S00 contactor. The screwdriver shaft diameter is 5…6 mm, tip size Pozidriv PZ 2. For main contacts use M3 screws. MTTF with high demand rate is 2,280 years.
