What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RU2116-0GB1 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in the S00 frame size, designed to protect motors against overload and phase failure. It mounts stand-alone or directly onto a contactor, and the integrated auxiliary switch reports the tripped state back to the control system — the note on the line is simply "Tripped". Trip class CLASS 10 means it will open within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current — fast enough to protect standard induction motors during a locked-rotor event without nuisance tripping on normal start-up. Rated insulation voltage is 690 V, and the relay handles switching currents across a wide voltage range: 2 A at 24 V, 3 A at 120 V, 2 A at 230 V, 1 A at 400 V, and 0.75 A at 690 V. Power dissipation per pole is 1.6 W.
Integration and mounting
The relay is 45 mm wide, 80 mm deep, and 89 mm tall — a compact S00 footprint that fits standard DIN-rail or direct-contactor mounting. Screw-type terminals accept 2× (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) or 2× (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire; the screwdriver shaft should be 5 to 6 mm with a Pozidriv PZ2 tip. Mounting position is any, and temperature compensation is active from -40 to +60 °C. Operating ambient range is -40 to +70 °C; storage and transport range is -55 to +80 °C.
