What it is and what it does
The 3RU2116-0GC0-ZX95 is a Siemens SIRIUS thermal overload relay in the Size S00 frame, designed to protect AC motor circuits against overload and phase-loss conditions. It mounts directly onto a contactor (contactor mounting) and uses a bimetallic thermal release with a Trip Class 10 characteristic — meaning it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the current setting, standard for standard-duty motor starting. The relay is rated for a maximum insulation voltage of 690 V (AC-3e rated value maximum 690 V) and carries auxiliary contact ratings across multiple control voltages: 2 A at 24 V, 3 A at 120 V, 2 A at 230 V, 1 A at 400 V, and others covering 60 V through 690 V. These are the contacts that signal the trip condition — the unit's note indicates it is configured for message Tripped.
Mounting and wiring
This relay snaps onto a compatible contactor (Size S00 footprint), occupying no extra DIN-rail width — the 45 mm width and 87 mm height keep the assembly compact. Connections are spring-loaded terminals accepting 2 × (0.5... 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded conductors; no screwdriver needed for the main circuit, though the auxiliary screw terminals require a 3 mm diameter blade (3.0 × 0.5 mm tip). Mounting position is any, and the operating temperature range is -40 to +70 °C.
