What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RU2116-1CC1 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in the S00 frame size, designed to protect motors against overload and phase failure by monitoring the motor current and tripping the contactor when the thermal model exceeds the Trip Class 10 curve. Trip Class 10 means the relay will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current — standard for standard-start induction motors where rapid disconnection under locked-rotor conditions is needed. The auxiliary contact set is rated for switching at multiple control voltages: 2 A at 24 V, 3 A at 120 V, 2 A at 230 V, and 1 A at 400 V, covering most global control-circuit standards. Rated insulation voltage is 690 V, with corresponding motor power ratings of 0.75 kW at 400 V and 1.5 kW at 690 V.
Mounting and wiring
Mounts directly to the contactor in a stand-alone installation; any mounting position is permitted. The S00 frame mates with Siemens 3RT2 contactors in the same size class. Main circuit connections use spring-loaded terminals accepting 2× (0.5 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire. Auxiliary contacts are integrated into the relay body. Dimensions: 45 mm wide, 102 mm high, 79 mm deep — fits standard 45 mm DIN-rail pitch.
Environmental and compliance
Operating temperature range is -40 to +70 °C, with temperature compensation active across -40 to +60 °C. Storage and transport range extends to -55 to +80 °C. The part carries a substance prohibition date of 10/01/2009, indicating RoHS compliance from that date forward.
