The Siemens 3RU7116-1AB0 is a SIRIUS thermal overload relay in size S00, designed to protect three-phase AC/DC motor circuits up to 690 V. It is rated at 1.6 A operational current and carries a Class 10 trip characteristic, meaning it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the current setting — fast enough to protect standard induction motors during a stall or locked-rotor event without nuisance tripping on normal starting inrush. The relay mounts directly to the matching S00 contactor, saving DIN-rail space and keeping the power wiring between the contactor and relay internal to the assembly.
Fastening is contactor mounting — it snaps onto the S00 contactor (e.g. 3RT1016 series) without extra brackets. The mounting position allows ±135° rotation around a vertical axis and ±45° tilt forward/back, which gives flexibility for angled panel layouts or tight enclosures. Width is 45 mm, depth 78 mm, height 87 mm; side spacing to grounded parts needs 6 mm clearance. The screw-type terminals on both main and auxiliary circuits accept 2× (0.5…1.5 mm²) solid or 2× (0.75…2.5 mm²) stranded, torqued to 0.8…1.2 N·m.
Ambient limits and power loss
Operating ambient is -20 to +55 °C, storage/transport -25 to +70 °C. Relative humidity up to 90 %. Installation altitude max 2000 m without derating. Shock resistance is 8 g / 11 ms per IEC 60068-2-27.
