What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RV1011-1CA20-ZX95 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker designed for motor protection in control panels. It combines a 3-pole main circuit with spring-loaded terminals for both the main and auxiliary/control circuits, and it snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022 — the standard rail found in every industrial panel. Rated at 2.5 A continuous current with a CLASS 10 trip characteristic, it protects motors against overload and short-circuit. The CLASS 10 rating means it trips within 10 seconds at 7.2× the current setting — fast enough to protect standard induction motors during a locked-rotor event without nuisance tripping on normal startup inrush. Breaking capacity is 100 kA at 240 V AC and 400 V AC, dropping to 10 kA at 500 V AC and 2 kA at 690 V AC. At 400 V — the most common industrial distribution voltage — that 100 kA rating handles virtually any fault the upstream transformer can deliver, so it doesn't force a series rating or a larger upstream breaker.
Key features for the panel builder
Mounts in any position on a 35 mm DIN rail via screw and snap-on fastening. Dimensions are 45 mm wide, 90 mm tall, 81 mm deep — a compact footprint that fits a standard 45 mm slot on the rail, leaving room for adjacent devices. Spring-loaded terminals accept 2x (0.25... 2.5 mm²) solid or 2x (0.25... 1.5 mm²) finely stranded with ferrule. AWG equivalents are 2x (24... 14). No screw tightening needed — strip, insert, release. The terminals are finger-safe (IP20 front protection), which matters for panel access without de-energizing the entire cabinet. Phase failure detection is built in — if one phase drops, the breaker trips. No ground fault detection on this variant, so if that's required, you'd look at the GF version in the family.
Lifecycle and compliance
RoHS compliant per the substance prohibition date of 01.01.2013. The surge voltage resistance is rated at 6,000 V, and it withstands 25g / 11 ms shock — both standard for industrial panel gear.
